HUUM Hive Sauna Heaters

HUUM Hive line up is divided into 3 different subsections: 

• For standard home saunas: HUUM Hive Mini (6kW, 9kW, and 10.5kW)
• For larger saunas: HUUM Hive (12kW, 15kW, and 18kW)
• For an authentic wood fired sauna experience: HUUM Hive Wood & Hive Heat

In the following article, we go through each lineup and their specifics and details. Everything you need to know about HUUM Hive sauna heaters, will be included in the article.

HUUM Hive

HUUM Hive comes in 12kW, 15kW and 18kW configurations. All configurations are the same size physically, the only difference is the power output these heaters have. The bigger the number, the more powerful the heater is.

You can wire two, three, or however many HUUM Hive’s next to each other, if you can’t power your sauna with one Hive alone. Wiring multiple Hive’s into one sauna is ideal for bigger saunas that spas and gyms tend to have.

HUUM Hive 12kW, 15kW and 18kW requires an extension box for the system wiring. You can think about the extension box as the muscles from the operation, helping the system to supply enough power to the Hive.

Safety Distances for HUUM Hive 12kW, 15kW, and 18kW

All of these HUUM Hive sauna heaters require you to keep safety distance from combustible materials. Note, combustible. When it comes to cold surfaces like glass, stone, or tile, you can leave just a small cap for an air movement between the surface and the heater. You can also reduce the following safety distances with HUUMs heat shield by 50%.

• A = safety distance to combustible materials site ways, without having a heat shield.
• B = Total length of the area needed for the heater between 2 combustible materials
• H = height of the heater. Above the heater you need a minimum of 47.24 inches air cap for the heat to distribute effectively.

HUUM Hive Mini

HUUM Hive Mini sauna heater is slightly smaller compared to the standard Hive’s we talked about earlier. HUUM Hive Mini comes in 6kW, 9kW and 11kW. These sizes are perfect for home saunas up to 706 adjusted cubic feet. HUUM Hive Mini sauna heaters are physically the same size, the only difference is the power output the heater is capable of.

HUUM Hive Mini does not require an extension box, because the Main Module included in the UKU control package can support heaters up to 11kW. This was updated in 2023, so you may find inaccurate information on some websites trying to upsell you the extension box.

Overview of HUUM Hive Electric Sauna Heaters

HUUM Hive and Hive Mini sauna heaters offer long lasting soft steam, sturdy stainless steel construction and award winning design. Perfect for any home or commercial sauna. 

• Hive Mini is great for those looking for high-quality sauna experience without needing a large sauna heater. 
• Hive on the other hand is great for bigger sauna builds, in need of a more powerful solution.

HUUM Hive Controllability

As with all HUUM Sauna Heater, the HUUM Hive heaters are controlled with an external UKU control system. HUUM UKU can be divided into two different categories: 

• UKU Local
• UKU WiFi

As the name suggests, Local systems allows you to control the sauna from a control panel placed preferably outside of your sauna room.

UKU WiFi on the other hand adds one more option, without taking away the local panel controllability: The ability to control your HUUM from an app on your phone. With UKU WiFi, you can turn on the sauna from wherever you are.

HUUM UKU Control Panels

Whether you choose the local control system, or WiFI enabled one, there are multiple panel styles you can choose from. Something for everyone. All the panels have the same functionality and are controlled with the dial knob, which can be either pressed or scrolled. You can see everything you’re doing from the UKUs screen, and controlling the sauna is not exactly rocket science, rather a simple experience. With a few clicks you will have your sauna warming towards the desired temperature.

HUUM Wood Stoves

HUUM has one lineup of high end wood stoves for sauna goers preferring the traditional sauna experience. HUUM Hive wood sauna stoves have a large rock capacity and offer the same mild steam and long lasting sauna experience that HUUMs electric sauna heaters are known for.

If your sauna is bigger than the maximum capacity of the biggest HUUM Wood Stove, 17kW can handle, you can run your sauna with multiple HUUM Wood stoves.

All HUUM Wood stoves are equipped with large glass windows, large rock capacity and stylish stainless steel construction. Stylish choice for people appreciating the simplicity of modern sauna. Who doesn’t love the smell of burning wood, huh?

HUUM Hive wood stoves can be divided into 3 different configurations:

2. HUUM Hive Heat
3. HUUM Hive Wood LS

HUUM Hive Wood

HUUM HIVE Wood comes in two different models: 13kW  & 17kW. The HIVE Wood 13 is suitable for saunas from 212 cubic feet up to 459 cubic feet. In practice this covers regularly sized home saunas. 

• HUUM Hive Wood 17kW is suitable for saunas from 283 cubic feet up to 565 cubic feet
• HUUM Hive Wood 13kW is suitable for saunas from 212 cubic feet up to 459 cubic feet

HUUM Hive Heat

What is the difference between Hive Heat and all other wood fired sauna stoves? It’s the furnace:

• Hive Heat furnace is constructed in an innovative way that allows a more efficient burning process. 
• Normal sauna stove has one burning process in its chamber and then the wood gas escapes through the chimney.
• Hive Heat has two burning processes.
• First one is in the chamber as usual.
• The second burning process is initialized inside the stove making the wood gas burn. 

This way the wood is utilized much more efficiently and the heater is more eco-friendly. Much less of the wood gas escapes through the chimney making the heater more efficient. This means that it requires less wood to operate compared to a basic wood burning stove. Cool!

HUUM Hive Wood LS

LS means that the heater has an extended firebox. Why would the heater have an extended firebox? The extended firebox allows you to insert wood from an adjoined room. It allows you to pass the box through the wall and therefore insert wood from the comfort of the next room. Few benefits of this design:

• Sauna is easier to maintain clean when you don’t have to bring wood in
• Convenience -  you don’t have to always enter the sauna and bring wood with you
• Comfort & safety - if the sauna floor is wet and slippery, you don’t have to operate the heater from the sauna

Even if you don’t want to embed the heater through the wall, extended fire boxes can fit in longer wood, which is a great addition to any traditional sauna stove. Normal Hive Wood 17 can be used with up to 15.7 long firewood. However, LS17 can accommodate 22 inch long wood.

Safety distances for HUUM Hive Wood Sauna Stoves

All HUUM Wood stoves require you to keep safety distances from combustible materials. Note: Combustible! For surfaces like glass, tile, or stone, just leave a 1 inch cap for the air movement between the heater and that surface, so the heat gets distributed in the sauna room. 

All safety distances can be reduced by 50%, if you get a heat shield from HUUM. You put a heat shield between the sauna heater and the combustible material. This results in reduction on required safety distances.



Chimney Kits For Wood Stoves

HUUM sauna stoves, use the european 4.53 inch flue. You can convert your flue width to US standard 6 inches with the Harvia WZ115155 adapter.

You can save yourself time and energy by getting an official chimney kit with your stove. Available HUUM chimney kits are:

• HUUM Through the wall chimney kit
• If you want to go through the wall with your outdoor sauna, this is your option.

• HUUM Through the ceiling chimney kit
• Length of this kit is 9.025 feet from the top of the stove. The Stove is 29.6 inches high, meaning you can cover any standart sauna room with the kit. The length from floor to top of the chimney kit is 11.5 feet. If you need a longer chimney kit, you can get an extension from us to reach the required length.
